| FBI purges hundreds of training documents after probe on treatment of Islam | 21 Feb 2012 03:01:53 pm |

- FNC - FBI purges hundreds of training documents after probe on treatment of Islam (FNC, Feb. 21)
| "The FBI has purged hundreds of counterterrorism training documents after a months-long review found inaccuracies and other problems in their description of Muslims. "The review was triggered after a September blog in Wired magazine revealed training documents that reportedly called the Prophet Muhammad a "cult leader," claimed "devout" Muslims have been generally violent for hundreds of years and made other controversial statements. "The FBI did not get into details about which documents were purged, but a law enforcement source confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that hundreds were removed because they were deemed 'not consistent with the highest professional standards and the FBI's core values.' "The results of the review were announced during a meeting earlier this month that included FBI Director Robert Mueller. "The pages which were removed fell into at least one of four categories -- 'poor taste,' using Arab or Muslim 'stereotypes,' information missing 'precision,' and 'factual errors.' ...." |

| Cutting Through the Spin: What Obama's Budget Reveals, 4 Observations | 21 Feb 2012 12:51:58 pm |
- Forbes - Cutting Through the Spin: What Obama's Budget Reveals, 4 Observations (Charles Kadlec, Feb. 20)
| "The federal budget is a dense document totaling hundreds of pages of numbers. Yet, for all of the digital precision, the use of various “base line” budgets, numbers that span 11-year time frames and other arcana known only to Washington insiders and budget mavens obscure more than they reveal about what the federal government is up to. "To cut through the haze and spin, I chose to focus on President Obama’s “Proposed Budget”, and to compare all projections with actual 2011 levels. I came away with four observations: "Observation #1: The President’s budget calls for increasing federal spending by a total of $11 trillion over the next 11 years .... "Observation $2: The future has arrived. Entitlements and interest expense on the debt are putting the squeeze on all other functions of government .... "Observation #3: The Obama Administration’s failed economic policies are at the heart of today’s fiscal imbalance .... "Observation #4: The alternative to austerity, self-defeating tax increases and cuts to Social Security and Medicare programs is a bold program for economic growth ...." |

| Gallup Finds Unemployment Climbing to Nine Percent in February | 21 Feb 2012 10:10:44 am |
- CNS News - Gallup Finds Unemployment Climbing to Nine Percent in February (Matt Cover, Feb. 20)
| "Unemployment in the U.S. rose to nine percent in mid-February, up from 8.3 percent a month earlier, according to a new Gallup survey. The polling company said this suggests that it is 'premature' to assume the economy will not feature prominently in the 2012 election season. "Gallup figures typically provide an indication of what the government will report at the end of the month. " .... 'The U.S. unemployment rate, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 9.0% in mid-February,' Gallup said in its mid-month unemployment survey, released on February 17. 'The mid-month reading normally reflects what the U.S. government reports for the entire month, and is up from 8.3% in mid-January.' .... "Gallup said the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) would likely report a rise in the official unemployment rate in early March, when it publishes its February figures ...." |

| High Real Unemployment Data Reflect Poorly On Obama | 18 Feb 2012 12:58:06 pm |
- IBD - High Real Unemployment Data Reflect Poorly On Obama (IBD Editorial, Feb. 17)
| "Economy: The media machine that desperately wants Barack Obama re-elected has turned its focus on what it says are good unemployment numbers. The truth, though, is the job climate in America is miserable. "While the media and the administration portray the most recent jobs number -- 8.3% unemployment -- as good economic news, more sober minds understand what's really going on. The facts show a jobs slump that should not get an incumbent president re-elected. "Sure, the jobless rate is falling. But according to the Congressional Budget Office, we are going through the longest stretch of high unemployment since the Depression. The rate has been higher than 8% since February 2009, the month after Obama took office. "And, says the CBO, it is expected to stay above 8% through 2014. "Even worse for an administration straining to make the case that it deserves to be around for another four years is the real unemployment rate. It's not 8.3%, but closer to 15%, a figure that reflects those who 'would like to work but have not searched for a job in the past four weeks as well as those who are working part time but would prefer full-time work,' says the CBO ...." |
